INTRODUCTION - Somewhere in Italy
For this video we worked in collaboration with an American food and wine distributor, and with an Italian master chef. This video is unique in that we go behind the scenes of wineries and food producers to see how their products are made. We also explore interesting little known locations and some very well known locations. We present for your viewing pleasure something you might not see on a regular travel video."Somewhere in Italy" focuses on the regions of Basilicata and Umbria. While these regions may not be as well traveled as other regions, they offer wonderful travel experiences ... in addition to great food and wine. So join us as we explore Basilicata and Umbria. The DVD has both a thematic music track and a videographer's comments track. There are also a few special features you will enjoy. Total length of the video is about 70 minutes.

BACKGROUND - Author's notes We don't often get a chance to work with great people in Italy ... you know ... the people that really know the ins and outs. Well, as serendipity would have it, we connected with a food distributer in America by the name of "I Cugini, LLC" which means - the cousins. One cousin in the USA and the other in Italy. Our second connection was with the "Eatalian Style Corp." which has many chefs who provide Italian regional cooking as well as cooking demonstrations all over the world. They also have a a cooking school in Italy. We land in Rome, grab a car and head off to our ancestral home in Corfinio (Abruzzo region) to visit friends before we settle down to the serious work of videography. They have a wonderful "Hotel Ristorante Excelsior" in town ... It's also the only hotel in town. The people there are just fantastic and the food is terrific. We could only stay a day and it was hard to leave this rural, hill top village, the large piazza and friendly people. Oh well, duty calls. Okay, it's off to Basilicata. The shortest route is over the mountains and a drop onto the Autostrada just west of Naples. After a short five hour drive I meet up with Rocco, the Italian half of "I Cugini". This is going to be fun ... Rocco's english is as good as my Italian. We establish a base camp at the "La Quiete Hotel Risterante Pizzeria" which is on SS 585 near Rivello. The people were great and the food delightful. We unpack and after a quick meal (by Italian standards) we hit the road with our camera gear. Over the next several days Rocco takes me all over the region to video food producers and interesting locations. Eventhough we had never met before, he demonstrates the graciousness that can only be found in a true Italian. Needless to say, we ate well and sampled as much local wine as possible ... after the videography, of course. After almost a week with Rocco we head to the Rome airport to pick up Diane, the American half of "I Cugini". Off we go to Umbria and make our other base camp at the "Oasi Sacro Cure" hotel in Assisi. It is a converted convent that has wonderful charm and great food ... albiet nun-like rooms. We meet up with Lisa from "Eatalian Style Corp." who graciously acts as guide showing us the town of Assisi and drives us to various locations to do our video thing. We also connect with Lodovico who is an export manager and he takes us to yet more wineries and food producers. All the running around and lugging of equipment balances all the Italian food I am eating so I don't gain weight ... yeh, right. Well we hope you buy our video and enjoy the country side, wineries, food producers and interesting locations sprinkled around Basilicata and Umbria. Ciao. |
